5 Roofing FAQ

5 Roofing FAQs

Investing in your home with a new roof or even roofing repairs can be nerve-racking for homeowners! There are many questions you may have before investing in your roof, and we are here to answer the five top questions we receive when meeting with potential roofing clients.
  1. When is it Time to Replace my Roof?

Understanding when it is time to replace the roofing is the most popular question we receive! Obvious signs of damage can include:

  • Missing Roofing Shingles

    • Shingles can blow away or become loos as they age, so it is important homeowners are paying attention to their roofing.

  • Bucking & Curling

    • If you notice your shingles bucking upwards out of place, this is a sign moisture has entered the attic. Shingles will begin to lift out of place as the moisture caused the nails to push out.

    • Another sign of moisture affecting the shingles are edges curling inward.

  • Leaks in Home or Attic

    • After a rainstorm, you may notice leaks around your home. This is a sign your roofing has taken damage. Other leaks in your attic may not be as obvious, but these leaks also indicate a damaged roof.

  • Mold in the Attic

    • One of the most concerning signs of roof damage is molding caused by moisture entering the home. This can not only cause damage to the integrity of the roof, but it could also lead to health problems.

  • Shingle Granules in Gutters

    • If you find granules in your gutters, this is a sign your shingles are shedding and will need to be replaced. Granules look like black sand that sheds when the shingle is breaking down.

  • Higher Energy Bills

    • If you are experiencing a high increase in your heating or air conditioning costs, the cool or warm air could be escaping through your roofing.

  1. Can I replace my roof in the colder months, or should I wait?

Yes! It is possible to get a roof replacement in the winter months. Our experienced team knows how to install a roof without it damaging due to the colder temperatures. While it isn’t the most popular of times, you will be able to beat the roofing boom in spring to late fall.

  1. Should I replace roofing shingles or the entire roofing system?

The roofing system consists of more than a layer of shingles. By replacing the system, you will be able to improve the roof’s performance. If you notice heavy leaks, it may be a good idea to consider replacing the roof.

  1. Will a new roof help lower my electric bill?

If your old roofing is underperforming, a roofing repair can help lower your energy bills. It is ideal that the attic remains at the same temperature as it is outside. However, if the home is overheating, it can be due to inadequate ventilation, causing the HVAC to work harder to cool the home.

A new roofing system will be able to lower energy bills with the correctly installed ventilation.

  1. Is investing in a new roof a good idea?

Your roofing is your home’s first line of defense against debris, weather, and other objects that could harm to you or your family. We encourage having your roofing looked at by an expert roofing contractor to ensure it is in its best condition!

While protection should be your first concern, there are other benefits of replacing a roof.

  • Increase curb appeal

  • Energy savings

  • Quality roofing is designed to last long-term

  • Improve home value around 60% +/- ROI
